Objecteering Software initiates the standardization of MDA components at the OMG - June 2006

Capitalizing on expertise in order to steer model-driven software development, MDA components promote the formalization, sharing, diffusion, re-use and automation of software development know-how.

Boston, 27th June 2006, OMG meeting – The OMG unanimously voted to adopt the specifications for the standardization of MDA components (MDATC - MDA Tool Components), proposed by SOFTEAM and Objecteering Software. MDA (Model Driven Architecture) is a technology standardized by the OMG and used in model-driven application development. Using MDA, organizations can formalize, tool and automate the implementation of their technical, methodological and architectural expertise, in order to generalize and systematize their specific know-how in new-generation developments, thereby increasing productivity and quality. MDA components are designed to gather, diffuse and share know-how. For Philippe Desfray, R&D Director of SOFTEAM, MDA component standardization will lead to the emergence of a new market, where expertise will be packaged and diffused in the form of MDA components, thereby guaranteeing an acceleration in the growth of software development organization maturity.

Objecteering Software, SOFTEAM subsidiary, editor of the Objecteering 6 model-driven development tool suite and a leader in the field of MDA/UML technologies from their advent, already supports MDA components through its Objecteering MDA Modeler tool. Objecteering MDA Modeler puts MDA within everyone's reach, through its easy-to-use editors and graphical assistants:

  • A dedicated UML graphical editor, used to define UML profiles in UML 2.0 diagrams.
  • Dedicated template editors, used to graphically describe documentation, code or diagram generators as easily as a simple table of contents for a document.
  • A patterns editor adapted from a simple UML 2.0 class diagram editor, to describe repetitive modeling processes typically as "design patterns".
  • Diagrams dedicated to defining MDA components, before packaging them and deploying them in projects.
