Objecteering Software is proud to announce the release of Objecteering/UML 5.3, the latest version of its Objecteering/UML model-driven development environment, now providing extended initial development phases and teamwork support

Objecteering/UML version 5.3 introduces a major evolution in its integrated requirements analysis support and terminological dictionary management, together with a new graphical traceability editor.

St-Quentin-en-Yvelines – July 5th 2004 – Objecteering Software is pleased to announce with the release of Objecteering/UML 5.3, the introduction of a new version of its Objecteering/UML Requirements tool dedicated to initial analysis phase support integrated with UML modeling functions. Requirements gathering and terminological dictionary management support integrated with UML means that all the initial development phases are entirely covered by a single tool. The new, innovative and simple to use graphical traceability editor benefits from this integration, by providing integrated traceability management throughout the development life-cycle. This unique tool is ideal for preliminary analysis work or for the development of requirements analysis documents, which are the key to the success of software projects developed with UML.

Objecteering/UML can import requirements or dictionary terms from existing Word documents into its integrated repository. Its documentation generation feature allow users to automatically produce dedicated Word or HTML reports based on the terminological dictionary, on requirements or on UML models, according to previously defined parameters. Traceability links are used to produce traceability matrices within the resulting documents.

Objecteering/UML version 5.3 introduces extended support of teamwork.

Objecteering/UML is well-known for its extensive support of the MDA approach, driving development from requirements gathering right through tests, for technical targets such as Java, J2EE, C++, CORBA, SQL, VB, C #, and so on.

The "Enterprise Edition" of Objecteering/UML provides support of UML model configuration management at the finest level possible. Cooperative work within a team is managed by default through the regulation of shared access to the repository. Integrated with the main configuration management tools available in the marketplace, the "Enterprise Edition" of Objecteering/UML constitutes the ideal environment for model version and configuration management in the context of shared and concurrent development.

In order to provide the full range of industrial development facilities required by today's development teams, the "Enterprise Edition" of Objecteering/UML completes its teamwork management support through the new Diff & Merge function, used to display differences between models and to merge two models containing differences. This function, widely known at source code level, now has a sophisticated equivalent at model level. It is typically used to manage version branches, thereby allowing analysts and developers using the UML language to save a significant amount of time.

These features allow teams to industrially model and develop large-scale applications at both model and source code level. In this way, Objecteering/UML 5.3 currently available for Windows NT/2000/XP, and soon to be available for the Linux and Solaris platforms, consolidates its unique advantages for enterprise project development, while keeping its prices extremely attractive.

Key functions provided by the UML model Diff & Merge feature:
  • Model comparison
  • Difference visualization
  • Help in model merges
  • Partial or total model merges
  • Version branch management
  • Integration with the main software configuration management tools
